Reflection of the Architectural Communications

Overall I think the three workshops of this course were very interesting and well planned.
A range of skills, confidence as well as dexterity in architectural communications were developed and gained during each workshop - Model it, Draw it and Montage it.

In Model it workshop I learned to make the model by using different materials. I feel fresh and exciting during this workshop. In my opinion, model making is a very important process in architecture. In this process, we can easily understand the relationship between the space and light of the building. Therefore it is a accessible and tangible way of communicate.

Through the workshop 2 – draw it I was taught insight into the understanding of a building through its plans, sections and elevations. I was quite enjoying drawing the perspectives of the fisher house. Although I drew badly on my first attempt, however, I can see the improvement of my drawing techniques through the process of drawing later on.  In my opinion, architectural drawing is one of the best methods of expressing and communicating concepts in architectural communications.

In the last workshop I used all I’ve been learned in this course such as: model-making skills, drawing skills as well as Photoshop skills. These three workshops represent three most effective communication ways in architecture.

WORKSHOP 3 -Montage it! Flipbook

The following pictures are a serious of pictures to make flipbook. The flipbook reveals a abstractly guide  through the space of the concept model. Each picture is only slightly different from its predecessor to help the smooth flow of images in the flipbook.

WORKSHOP 3 -Montage it! Weekly Process

The pictures below show my weekly process of this workshop-montage it! At the beginning of the workshop I have even no idea about what's the montage means. However, during the progress I gradually understand what is the Photo montage like, as well as the Photoshop skills.

When I finish my model, I took a picture and printed it out. Then I traced it using tracing paper and re-created my model by adding the door, windows, people etc. Then I scanned it and made a further modify into the drawings with the aid of Photoshop.

I made a few test about the locations of the model such as garden, beach, down town etc. But none of them were satisfactory. Finally I decided to put the model in the edge of a lake. The picture is beautiful and the model can involve the background very well. I also "montaged" few boat into the background to make it feel real.
